Helping Fundraisers Find Large Charitable Gifts from Seldom Used IRD Assets

Fundraisers will learn about "Income in Respect of Decedent Assets" (IRD), and why they are often deemed "hard" to utilize during lifetime, and difficult to leave to family. This presentation will provide tools to identify opportunities with donors, and provide case studies of real-life scenarios that led to large gifts of IRD assets to charities. We will cover planning with Pension Plans, Annuities, IRAs, and Gifts of Existing Life Insurance to charity.

John has proudly held the Certified Specialist in Planned Giving designation from the American Institute for Philanthropic Studies since 1995, as one of the first professionals in the country to hold the title.

John's family office and business experience come from his role as Chairman of the Board for Kraemer Land Company, a family office operating in Southern California (www.kraemerland.com). All 140 family owners are descendants of early land grant settlers in Southern California, with Orange County business and real estate roots dating back to the 1860s. The Kraemer family has a long history of creating communities. Today the company continues to diversify the family's real estate portfolio with in-fill residential, commercial projects, joint ventures, and lending. He provides oversight to the executive management team with the company's acquisitions, strategic projects, forward vision, and portfolio optimization, and provides leadership to the large membership.

John also serves in an executive role with two Private Foundations, and assists with his family's vineyard and winery (www.yorbawines.com).

John lives in Del Mar, California with his wife Cim and is the proud father of three adult children.

Belinda is a local San Diegan passionate about ensuring the legacy of local family businesses. She has a diverse work background including experience at a computer software startup, real estate, and also serves on the board for a family real estate investment company. In addition to her work in insurance advisory services, Belinda is passionate about philanthropy and nonprofit management, serving on the Advisory Committee for The Ecology Center and the Planned Giving Committee for KPBS. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.
